Do you wake feeling refreshed and enthusiastic for a new day, or do you press snooze wondering how on earth it can already be morning? If it’s the later, it’s time to dig down and see what’s really causing you to feel energy zapped! While the origins of fatigue are different for everyone, here are 4 ways you can discover a more revitalised you! Iron-up Iron deficiency is a leading cause of fatigue and the most common deficiency in the western world. It’s needed to transport oxygen around the body and to assist with energy production. Meat, particularly red meat is a fabulous source of iron and it’s also found in plant foods (although, not as well absorbed) such as legumes, wholegrains and leafy greens. Supercharge the absorption of iron, by pairing these foods with those rich in vitamin C. Try topping muesli with kiwi fruit, adding sliced capsicum to leafy salads or squeezing lemon juice over steamed greens for a big hit of vitamin C. Sitting on energy The problem with the modern world is that we spend too much time sitting. Just think of how you drive to work, to sit at a desk, drive home, to then sit on the lounge and then finally go to bed! All that sitting is incredibly energy depleting, so aim to move every hour – whether it’s a few quick stretches, a brisk walk or just hanging out the washing, just move. Eat real food The food you choose eat, can either ignite or deplete you of energy. It can either bring you to great health or make your feel lousy. Choose to nourish your body with nutrient-dense wholefoods! Sleep We can’t fight biology; we’ve got to get some shut-eye if we want to feel great! Make it a healthy priority to sleep for 7-9 hours and work on your sleepy time routine in the 30 minutes before bed. This means switching off TV, putting away the computer and phone and instead use this time to relax and unwind in other ways, so that by the time your head hits the pillow you’re in the zone for restorative sleep.
