MORGAN HIGGINS APD
Accredited Practising Dietitian, Accredited Nutritionist & Educator
Morgan has always had a love of food and an interest in science, so dietetics was the perfect way to combine these two passions. Morgan’s journey to dietetics was quite a personal one and has definitely helped her grow and develop as a passionate dietitian.
Morgan started dancing when she was four years old and was dancing upwards of 20 hours a week whilst at school with the intention of pursuing dance as a professional career. Unfortunately serious injury meant that this was no longer a viable option. Following her passion for science Morgan enrolled in a Bachelor of Science majoring in Human Biology at the University of Canberra. Over the next 18 months Morgan fell into an unhealthy study slump where she began eating highly processed, high energy foods, sleeping very little and completely ceased physical activity. She started to feel continuously lethargic, run down and generally unhappy.
Around this time started to realise that her diet and lifestyle needed a rethink if she wanted to feel healthy and happy again. Morgan chose to concentrate on healthy eating and adding small amounts of physical activity into her daily routine as well as focussing on regular and full sleep. With these changes alone Morgan was able to lose 15kg and has maintained this weight and lifestyle for over two years now. It was this life change that made Morgan realise that if she was able to use simple tools to make such a difference to her health and wellbeing then she wanted to share these tools with others. Morgan then undertook a Bachelor of Health Science (Nutrition and Dietetics) at Charles Sturt University, which further increased her passion and knowledge skill around diet and activity. She now has a fantastic relationship with food!
Morgan has had a lot of experience in leading nutrition sessions and has a particular passion for healthy eating and active living for weight loss and weight maintenance. She also has a keen interest in food intolerances, gastro-intestinal disorders and refuelling nutrition for training. In her down time Morgan enjoys cooking, stand up paddle boarding, weight training and bush walks.
Having lost and maintained her weight she personally understands the hard work and commitment that goes into making such a big lifestyle change but she also represents the amazing positivity and vitality that can come from that hard work and persistence. With a background in dance teaching and volunteer work through organisations such as Red Cross, she has a wide range of education tools and techniques to help guide anyone to a healthier, more active life.
